A “Ketogenic diet is a diet consisting of a high level of fats, proteins and low carbohydrates.   In this diet the intake of carbohydrates is reduced to as low as 50-20 gms. When you do this your body runs out of fuel energy (blood sugar) This takes about 2 to 3 days. After that, your body begins to burn the stored protein and fats for energy.  When this happens the body begins to use the stored fat in the body for energy the body is transformed into a metabolic state known as ketosis, which can make you lose weight.

Additionally,  it carries with it many other health benefits besides weight loss like increased energy, reduces blood pressure and treats type-2 diabetes. It is also known to be  beneficial for Alzheimer's patients 

As there are few carbohydrates the body uses the fat intake to burn the fat instead of carbohydrates.   In a Ketogenic diet, intake of fat is increased and carbohydrates are minimised. By this, the body is put in a metabolic state known as Ketosis.  During this period the body becomes extremely efficient in burning fat. Lately, the Ketogenic Diet has become very popular all over the world as it is shown to be very effective in weight loss.
